Board of Developmental Disabilities votes to place renewal levy on November ballot

FPS staff report

Carroll Countians can expect to see at least one school levy on the November ballot.

The Carroll County Board of Developmental Disabilities approved a resolution at their April 26 meeting to request the renewal of a 1-mill tax levy for the continued operation of the Carroll Hills school program at the November 2012 election.

The levy, which would be extended for a term of 10 years, is due to expire at the end of 2012, and currently yields approximately $500,000 annually.

In other business, the Board voted to deed the Carroll Hills school property of approximately 8 acres along SR 9 back to the Carroll County commissioners since the acreage is county-owned land.

Supt. Matt Campbell reported the Board was issued an accreditation certificate by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.

“The results of the review found that the Carroll County Board of DD achieved substantial compliance with minimum standards and subsequently obtained a 4-year period of accreditation,“ Campbell said.

He also noted a $100,000 match letter requested for the Commissioners attempt to obtain a grant to expand the Commercial Park treatment plant was approved two years ago when the commissioners were applying for a grant to update the system based on a new building for nursing care.

“This $100,000 will allow the school to have an updated treatment system and only pay a monthly usage fee since the current system on Carroll Hills property is 27 years old,” Campbell said.

In his report, Campbell told the Board estimates were requested for new gym flooring and the staff has requested rubberized flooring instead of carpet which costs around $24,000 instead of the approved $15,000.

A recommendation was made to move forward with the new flooring and take the $15,000 set aside for awning to cover the additional cost.

In other business, the Board approved the Ethics Council recommendation for 1 new application for Family Selected Services and payment of $1,163.08 in the hot lunch fund, along with the payment of $76,489.71 in the general funds account.

The Board’s next regular scheduled meeting is May 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the administration building at 1182 Roswell Rd. NW, Carrollton.
