Although the first day of school can be scary for five and six-year-olds and their parents, kindergarteners at Dellroy elementary school got off to a great start, school officials said.
“This year no children cried and only one parent had tears in her eyes as she left the room,” commented Mrs. Deborah Kintigh, the kindergarten teacher.
“Our week was very busy learning rules, making a line, punching in pin numbers for lunch, meeting new friends, learning how to do a fire and tornado drill and getting to the bus to go home,” Mrs. Kintigh said.
“Would you believe our principal, Mr. Dorety, had a fire drill on our first day of kindergarten?”, she remarked. “Good thing we practiced in the morning,” she added.
Of course, the most asked question all week was “when do we get to go outside and play?
Mrs. Kintigh said she overheard one boy say on the first day to another child, “this isn’t so bad after all, it might even be fun”.
“After our first week, all agreed it was fun. The kids are excited to come back and we are all looking forward to a great year,” she added.
Mrs. Kintigh is shown in the above photo pointing to some classroom rules as four class representatives and their new principal, Mr. Dorety, look on.
