To the Editor:
It is not often an opportunity exists where we can affect the lives of many and at the same time create a positive impact on the community in which we live. It is our choice. We can either ignore it or we can take the initiative to perform our civic duty, the right to vote, at a time when economically it may be difficult. As residents of the Brown Local School District, my wife and I will continue to support the upcoming renewal of a levy that will provide the smooth operation of our schools and in addition provide a quality educational experience for our youth. Renewal does not mean a new tax nor does it mean an additional tax. The dictionary definition of renewal says it all: to replace with something of the same kind, to rejuvenate, to refill, to give or get an extension. This “renewal levy” will not increase your taxes, but will provide our school system with the funds necessary to continue to operate smoothly in the years to come. Although we no longer have any children attending Brown Local Schools, we are impressed by the many accomplishments of the students, the faculty, the administration and the support staff that comprise Brown Local Schools, one of the smallest districts in Ohio.
To lose our schools would be devastating to our community. I welcome the opportunity to support our district the same way others supported it when our own children were actively attending Brown Local Schools.
We urge all residents of our community to make a special effort to make it to the polls this November. In addition, we hope you will continue to support your local school district of which we can be very proud. They have helped to make our community a special place to live and will continue to provide the necessary skills and opportunities for our children in the years to come. Thank you for your continued support.
