To the Editor:
The majority of the Carrollton Exempted Village School District members have made the following decisions in the last few years: Close Kilgore School, close Harlem Springs School, close Willis School, bring in TV diners for lunch which may be loaded with sodium and preservatives, remove the stage at Bell-Herron, which may have a detrimental effect on the fine arts program; removed specialized art education (by a certified art teacher) from the elementary school, laid off cooks, bus drivers and a secretary to save money, have plans to add a kitchen at Bell-Herron Middle School (spending the money saved), placed a bond issue to build three or four new schools along SR 332 (leading to added transportation costs), failed to open and operate the Vet’s pool in spite of an agreement to do so, and have plans to sell the property.
If these decisions, which lack the support of a large part of the community, are being made by a majority of the members of the Board of Education, what type of decisions are being made in the inter-workings of the school, specifically, decisions made by administrators brought in who do not live in the district or choose to raise their families in the community? Maybe we need to elect some new school board members who have a vision for the entire district as well as the well-being for our children and grandchildren and the community at heart.
