Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
The following is an open letter to the Carrollton Exempted Village School System from the Carroll County Retired Teachers Association:

We realize the Carrollton Exempted Village School District must pinch pennies and still offer a well-rounded educational program. Part of such a system is the fine arts program along with other academic subjects such as mathematics, the languages, science, history and, of course, physical education. We should not sacrifice any of these no matter how tight the budget is.

The recently proposed changes in the middle school auditorium would seriously impact future dramatic and musical presentations. Since this facility has many features that were made possible by generous donations specifically for the performing arts, seems very ungrateful to undo these features.

We believe the student meals would be better prepared in the high school cafeteria kitchen. This is already in service. We do not have to run new electrical services into the area or install new equipment. These are already in position. We are aware of the problem in crossing Third St. NE, but this has been accomplished for many years by many students without serious problems.

In closing, we ask the community’s support in retaining our performing arts facility as it is. It is the best thing to do for our students and our district.

Ralph Lloyd
Carrollton, OH
