To the Editor:
I read The Heritage Foundation in the April 9 issue of The Free Press Standard entitled “COEBama”: the car czar. I’m only 37 years of age, not a financial wizard (by far), not a wise old timer, just an Ohio-bred woman who wishes she lived in a more progressive, open-minded community. I realize I live in “Republican Country” where I cast my vote for, yes, Barack O’Bama. My initial vote was for Hillary, that’s right, Hillary, but I cannot wrap my mind around the backward thinkers who view every decision our president makes as a “right being squelched.”
For years I’ve known car companies can’t pump out thousands upon thousands of cars three shifts a day, seven days a week. It’s absurd! Reading these words, I’m sure anyone would agree. However, how many years have we, as a people, allowed this to go on? Because after all, this provided tons of jobs, right? We knew it couldn’t go on forever!
Then, finally someone put their foot down, took control and people like Ed Feulner antagonize by saying “Americans don’t need anyone telling us what type of cars we can buy!”
In other words, our rights are being stomped on, or it’s a slow news week. The article stated people don’t want economical cars; they want trucks and SUVs. Of course, they want bigger (which is seen as better in our materialistic eyes), better and safer. Even though we can be just as safe in an economic car, that is not the mindset of our typical driver these days. Our goal is not to be reliable, environmentally safe drivers, but to get where we’re going as fast as possible, cramming as many multi-tasking activities in as we can. If you’re a person who uses a cell phone, text, drinks coffee, smokes, etc., all while driving, of course need a large automobile. That’s offensive driving, right? If our choices were limited, wouldn’t our decisions be smarter?
Are we such spoiled brats and so selfish we can’t stop and change our ways for the better, for our children, to save our planet? To my fellow Christians: can we not respect our Creator and His creations by making better choices? How many vehicles do we need aging in car lots around the world before we become responsible?
Yes, President Obama ousted GM’s CEO. Things need changed! Who else is going to do it and take the blame for doing so? If the money-hungry CEOs aren’t held accountable, who is? Of course GM and Chrysler should have reorganized and return as smaller, healthier companies many years ago but they didn’t and our government finally stepped in. Somebody had to. Bankruptcy is just one of the new “fix all” solutions we shouldn’t allow to continue. Ed asked: “The bureaucrats in Washington have plenty of other things to do, don’t they?” This is why we elect them, Ed.
