To the Editor:
The Board of Park Commissioners wish to thank the many dedicated volunteers who helped at this year’s Fall Family Festival at Carroll Community Park on Saturday, Oct. 31, unfortunately a less than ideal fall day.
In spite of that, the board felt the event was well attended, with more than 175 children receiving treats and bags offered throughout the Enchanted Forest trick or treat trail. Candy for the trail came from Bud’s Farm Toys, Warner and Warner, Charles Johnston for Judge, Ed Jones Computing, Jan Kennedy for Commissioner, Janet McBride, National City Bank, Unison Health, Skinner for School Board, and Stark State Carrollton Branch and Ashton’s Holiday Shoppe.
The Carrollton Church of Christ-Christian Disciples brought their grills and served up the hot foods everyone needed on such a chilly and damp day. The chili and coneys were great and there was plenty of it. Thanks to John Rutledge and Darrell Shafer for the generators that kept the juice flowing.
The pumpkin painting was well accepted, with only a few left over. Face painting and games were also a big hit with the kids. Thanks to Peggy Baxter and Cheri Bell from the arts center and De Warner and Kristen Snyder from Help Me Grow for manning those activities. Thanks to Joe Knipp for donating many of the pumpkins.
The Carrollton Civic Club has been restoring the small barn at the front of the park with material funds donated by the Ashton Preservation Foundation. Sherwin Williams in Carrollton donated the paint to make it nice and white again. It was just about finished at festival time and will become a useful storage area for future events.
Thanks go out to those folks who wanted to help but just couldn’t make it. Spikeman was going to DJ, but he was feeling much too ill to get us all in a good mood. Duane Wasniak felt the cold and rain wouldn’t do much for his pony rides and Bob George’s big Belgian that was supposed to pull the new wagon came up lame just the day before. But thanks for wanting to help this year. Maybe next year.
Huebner’s donated their popcorn machine and volunteers from the Carrollton YMCA helped to bag and serve it.
Cash donations came from Dr. Bruce Barker, DDS, Cissy Ray Bright, Chuck and Carol Lutton, Mercy Medical Center, Berg, Birong and Chamblee, DDS, and Ace Hardware.
Thanks to Lewis Grigsby, Ron and Etta Mae Peterson, and Bill and Cyndy Wells for helping with debris clearance at the downed barn and for mowing and trail grooming and to Donna Denoon for helping with set up the day of the event.
A big thank you goes to Shelly Yoder for stepping in at the last minute and really saving the day with all her help.
Thanks also go out to the many families who brought their children that day to enjoy the park and the out of doors, even when it wasn’t the sunniest day. The kids don’t seem to mind when there is fun, fresh air and lots to do. Get out and enjoy your Community Park every day, it is there for you.
