To the Editor:
Agriculture is Ohio’s largest industry. Out-of-state activist groups have signaled they would like to bring an initiative to Ohio that would set rigid, inflexible and impractical rules for how livestock and poultry are housed. This would lead to higher costs for consumers, put food safety at risk, increase the amount of food imported into Ohio, cause thousands of farmers to go out of business and endanger the overall health and well-being of Ohio’s flocks and herds.

I am passionate about agriculture and I am concerned animal agriculture in Ohio will be impacted tremendously without the passage of Issue 2 on Nov. 3.

Issue 2 will create an animal care standards board to help establish uniform, statewide guidelines for animal care that will ensure the availability of safe, locally-grown affordable meat, milk and eggs. The passage of Issue 2 will also help sustain the viability of Ohio’s agriculture community, including the jobs it provides and the economic contributions it makes. Issue 2 will help protect family farms of all sizes.

Please support the creation of the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board by voting “yes” for Issue 2. Keep decisions about livestock and poultry where they belong - in our state.
