To the Editor:
The American Red Cross and its volunteers work every day to help save lives or rebuild lives that have been shattered by disaster - whether it is down the street, across the country and around the world.

March is Red Cross Month across the country, and we want to thank those supporters whose generosity helps us continue our service to those who need us, every day.

The Red Cross responded following the Haiti earthquake in January, working to turn despair into hope.  The Red Cross is there in Haiti now - and we are also here each day in Carroll, Harrison and Tuscarawas counties for families who need us.

Since the beginning of 2010, our volunteers have assisted in some significant local disaster situations that included the Scio Village water outage, the area-wide power outage due to the recent winter storms and four major home fires.  Each disaster is different, but we provide basic emergency needs such as food, clothing and temporary shelter thanks to the generosity of our community.

Finally, Red Cross Month is a great time for people to get involved with the Red Cross, such as donating blood; signing up for a CPR, first aid or another Red Cross course; giving a financial gift that can save the day when the next disaster strikes, or getting involved as a volunteer.  Contact us at 330.343.8633 or visit www.mlcredcross.org to learn more.
