To the Editor:
This letter is in response to the article printed in the Free Press Standard Sept. 24 titled, “Tax dollars wasted?”
I am writing to offer my support of the work of county commissioners regarding the expansion of broadband service throughout Carroll County; in particular Commissioner Tom Wheaton was mentioned and interviewed in the article. Tom Wheaton has and continues to honorably serve the residents of Carroll County in the commissioners office for the past nine years. He embodies a sense of integrity, brings knowledge and a willingness to seek out opportunity and is truly a public servant in every sense of the phrase. As a commissioner, he has broadened opportunities for our county and notably represented our area at the regional and state level in ways unmatched by our previous commissioners.
As we all read the article and disseminated the information presented, it was easy to conclude the situation is questionable. A company was chosen to complete work and received state grant money to complete that work. In the end, the job was not finished. While there are questions that many people may be seeking answers to, it is important to remember the county commissioners are working for the community, not against it.
I stand behind Commissioner Wheaton as an unwavering public servant whose decisions are guided by the best interest of the people who elected him.
