Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
I recently read a letter written by Ms. Shari Howells of the Carroll County Veterans Service office. Shari Howells plans to retire in March 2011 and here is a question about her accumulated sick and vacation time.

Apparently due to circumstances beyond her control, she accumulated more vacation and sick time than she was suppose to be allowed. Now there is some question as to whether or not she will receive these benefits upon her retirement.

I am a retired military veteran and I know Ms. Howells. I know her to be honest, kind and caring. She was helpful to me when I needed help. From all I can find out, she has done an outstanding job for our veterans and she has always been there for us.

I understand that Common Pleas Court is the appointing authority in this matter. I assume and hope there is no attempt to influence the Veterans Board in this matter.

In closing, I hope Shari Howells gets the consideration she deserves for her years of service to our veterans. I would like to see the area veterans respond to this situation and help Shari Howells as she has helped us. When she retires she will be sorely missed by all of us.
