To the Editor:
I hope everyone read the April issue of Country Living Magazine page 8 called “Price tag for power could skyrocket under Cap and Trade plan” and a page 10 article, “Co-op members urged to make voices heard about environment and energy.”
Cap and trade means capping carbon-dioxide levels (by the way, carbon dioxide is plant food) and establishing a trading market for permits that emitters would need in order to operate forcing the electric companies to pass the costs back to us.
With the current proposals for cap and trade (think of it as more taxes) the $4 per gallon price at the pump experienced last year will pale in comparison to these increases because it could increase your electric bill by as much as $1,600 per year according to the article.
I don’t know about you, but I can think of lots of ways my family can use $1,600 instead of paying more for electricity. Let me stress this is not the electric company’s fault. It is our government’s fault by attempting to control everything you do under the false pretense of global warming, formerly global cooling, now climate change. Guess what? The earth’s climate has always changed.
I don’t see our government elitists changing their way of life. They still ride in limos, private jets and illuminate mansions. If they truly believed this to be a crisis, their lifestyles would have changed immediately. But instead they choose to force us to change all the while living the high life on your money, i.e. your labor and time which is slavery.
There’s also been talk about taxing the farmer for the methane emissions from farm animals to curb global warming. Folks, I’m not making this stuff up! This would mean higher prices at the grocery store. Where does it all end?
While we are in an economic crisis with families losing their jobs, their homes and their ability to stay afloat, our government is bailing out companies with your money, passing massive spending bills and is completely out of financial control. Now they want to take more from the family budget to impose cap and trade restrictions on energy companies. This is nuts! You must get involved. You cannot afford ridiculous expenditures such as this, especially in Oho, one of the most business-unfriendly states in the nation.
Call your senators and representatives on a weekly, if not daily, basis and remind them they work for us. They did not get elected just to get re-elected. They were elected to represent our interests. And this is not in our best interest. If they do not listen, vote them out, every one of them.
The time is now. You cannot sit idly by and let them take more of your family’s money.
