To the Editor:
May 5, 2009, was set aside as Children’s Mental Health Day in Ohio.  Carroll County participated in the awareness effort on the 5th with an event at 11:30 am, on Carrollton’s square. Children and adults present formed a “Ring of Resilience” all to remind us that “Today’s Children are Tomorrow’s Future.”  The event also provided an example of the priority that is given to our children along with the cooperation and collaboration that occurs on many levels.

From the primary planning provided by Carroll/Tuscarawas Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board, Carroll County Health Department, and Carroll County Department of Job & Family Services to the Administration Offices of the Village of Carrollton and the Board of County Commissioners, both providing proclamations and support of the day’s events, the level of cooperation was evident.  The event’s sponsors included the Carroll/Tuscarawas ADAMHS Board, Carroll Healthcare Center, McDonalds Restaurant, and the Carroll County Family and Children First Council.

Thank you to Alan Miller and Carroll Healthcare Center for donating the food, and the Carrollton Civic Club for the expert job of preparation and cooking; thanks Chris Jones! Byron Fairclough and the Carrollton Rotary Club changed their meeting venue to the public square to allow members to join the event.  Of course, a very special thanks to Carrollton schools administration for allowing 5th grade students to attend and participate in the activities.  The very talented 7th grade choir provided a number of selections for our enjoyment.   Thank you to Jean Kohler as well for providing the sound system.  A note of thanks to The Free Press for your coverage and helping to provide information and awareness surrounding children’s issues.

Thanks to all in attendance and for all you do in behalf of the families and children of Carroll County.

John E. McCall
Director
Carroll County Family and Children First
