To the Editor:
The news lately has been more depressing than ever: the devastation of the earthquake in Haiti and the seemingly slow response to help. No heavy equipment there? Hard to believe. We had a hospital ship on our eastern shore that took a few days to get underway. Why is that? Were they resupplying or what?
Help was sent by many countries. Israel helped, but what happened to Arabia? They made billions and billions from the world, more than likely most of it was from us. This is sad. One of their princes could buy that whole country with their pocket change. Why does our government seem to ignore this fact? Do we need this type of friendship for oil? How dumb do they think we are?
Secondly, the Supreme Court. They must be in corporate America’s and the very wealthy’s hip pockets. They can now more freely buy all the votes they want for their crooked politicians, or better called puppets. More Big Brother?
We know these types of judges in our area. They are also known as the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Court. Eighteen high powered judges and a bunch of hot shot lawyers. These guys are not cheap. I see one of the first things they did after the illegal tax was to increase their expense money (probably wages too). I was told they can do this just because they can. Authority: and there is nothing we can do about it.
Third, President Obama has quietly given the FBI and other federal snoops the right to listen to our phone calls. What’s next? Open our mail? I wouldn’t be surprised if they already do. They can point high tech microphones at our homes and listen to our intimate conversations and stories we share with family and friends. Big Brother at its finest?
Fourth, a man in Pennsylvania was at a store and some guy was in a pickup sitting in the fire lane for quite some time. The man asked what was going on. The man in the truck was an off-duty state patrolman who said he could do it if he chose to. Let us try to do it. There were witnesses who saw and heard what went on; nothing serious for the most part. Later that evening, the man was having a few drinks at his home. He heard a loud banging at his door, which would upset most of us. He slammed his door open and three state police stormed in and beat him ruthlessly. There were no complaints from anyone or any real reason to do this.
Big Brother or just because they could do it; because they had the authority or are they a bunch of bullies? It seems there is a lot of this these days. Thanks to technology, we can prepare ourselves from this type; phones record videos, small recorders, etc.
Lastly, speed cameras. I can’t believe people in these towns and cities sanctioned these things. Shouldn’t they be voted on by the people? More Big Brother.
It seems we are leaving our children a very sad legacy. A government or police state? Seems we are always looking over our shoulders, hiding our thoughts and whispering words.
Yes, the terrorists have won.
