To the Editor:
I am a resident of the Carroll Golden Age Retreat. I’m 88 years old. The reason I am writing is because of the people of Carrollton who volunteer much of their time and lives to help us. I think they should be publicly praised for all they do and it should be in the paper.
Mrs. Ollie Hawkins is our super (superintendent) and to say the least, she is just that, super. She puts up with no abuse or any meanness either. The kids in grade school and high school all made us each a Christmas card and they sang and sang, and danced for us. They are great. The 4-H club and people made us gifts; it’s the small things that count. They come and play the piano, sing, do our nails. The toe doctor gives him time also. You would be surprised at all the ones who volunteer their time and lives to help others. I wish you could be here at Christmas to take pictures and put it in the paper so people will understand the kindness of people who live in Carrollton and around the area. They deserve some recognition. The ministers come also.
I have to tell you about the people who work here. They are the best anywhere you go. You could not beat them -the nurses, cleaning women, laundry, maintenance and kitchen - everyone is great. There is a lady who comes here and writes and send cards out for us also. The Christmas party shuld have been in the paper. Santa and Mrs. Claus were here and all the kids got to see and talk to Santa. I want all the people to know how much we love and appreciate all they do to keep us going. I hope I can help by publicly thanking them.
