Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
The staff at Willis Elementary would like to say thank you to all Willis community members for their support this year and throughout the past years. We have worked together to make this a memorable year for our students, teachers and community. We have shared many amazing events such as Ohio State Buckeye Cheer and Spirit Days, celebrating together student achievement assemblies, PTO dances, our Penguin Day before Christmas when we wrote letters to Santa and decorated cookies, welcoming back Mrs. Stoffer from maternity leave, saying goodbye to Mrs. Mapes (a person who became a dear friend to us all), the joyous Christmas program and uplifting spring concert, exciting school-wide Easter egg hunt, long days of studying for the achievement tests together with parent volunteers, Grandmas Elsie and Joan and being grateful the tests are finished.

Our little country school also collected over 1,000 cans of food for our Christmas food drive for families in need. We had a great time that week watching the graph in the hallway grow as each class brought in donations. Grandma Elsie spent countless hours putting together a school quilt. Several of our students contributed heartwarming artwork to this project. We look forward to all upcoming events such as the Handwriting Contest and Right to Read Week. It will be a memorable week, in that, on May 16, the Willis students, staff and volunteers will visit Augusta Elementary to get to know new classmates and enjoy many “PIG”tastic activities, culminating in a teacher kissing a baby pig! Who will it be? Money is being collected for Mr. Ledford, Mrs. Stoffer and Mrs. Hendon. The lucky teacher with the most donations wins. All proceeds go to St. Jude’s organizations.

Finally, our PTO has a fantastic day planned for the last day of school. All of these events were possible because of the community. Willis has many wonderful parents and community members who have made this school year and previous years very successful in creating a positive atmosphere for our students. As the staff at Willis Elementary, we thank each and every one of you for the wonderful memories and endless support. We believe it does take a village to raise a child and our students are living proof of it.

Mrs. Hull, principal
Mrs. Culler, secretary
Mrs. Truman, intervention specialist
Mrs. Richards, classroom aide
Mrs. Talkington, cafeteria
Mr. Arbogast, janitor
Mr. Ledford, Mrs. Newell, Mrs. Jenkins, Mrs. Stoffer,
Mrs. Hendon, Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Neeley
and Mrs. Frantum, all teachers,
