Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
We would like to set the record straight to all the people complaining about our family being bought out in the Malwayne Acres Mitigation Project.

I am the one who started the petition and went door-to-door to get your signatures. I also made up all the flyers and took them door-to-door to get all of you to go to the township meeting and we had a great turnout. I also contacted the Carroll County Commissioners, our senators, congressman and the governor.

What did all of you do until you saw I was getting action? No one came to me to ask if I needed help. Everyone said I was wasting my time. Now you have the nerve to complain because we are being bought out. Shame on all of you. I lived there for 21 years and still own the property, for a total of 24 years.

Our question is: Why all the complaining about us being bought out? If it wasn’t for me all of you would be still be living in the flood and not doing a thing about it. Everyone who wants to go will have a chance to accept the offer. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) decides who gets to go and in what order. Yelling at the Brown Township Trustees and Vera Gatchall is wrong and disrespectful to them.

They are trying to help all of you and this is what they get in return. Shame on all of you. For those who moved in or purchased homes after the signs went up warning you that you were entering a flood zone, think about it: Whose fault is it? It is not like you weren’t warned so why move in where you know it is flood area?

Maybe all of you should take a good look in the mirror. We moved because we had to, not because we wanted to.
