To the Editor:
I would like to write this note of appreciation and say thank you to everyone who has helped create and maintain the Carroll Golden Age Retreat (County Home) this year. We continue to update and improve. And, with the assistance of an excellent staff and support from a caring community, we hope to be able to continue to provide the services the citizens of Carroll County request of us.
The economy has been hard on everyone, cost of utilities and employee benefits and facility repair and supplies continue to escalate beyond our control. We have expanded and continue to explore any other available avenues to increase our income to help us stay within our budget.
Our residents have enjoyed a lovely summer. They have made good use of the sidewalks, porches, pavilion and patio. They have enjoyed the rural country atmosphere inside and out. This is their home. They have supported it with tax dollars since the county home was initially established in Carroll County in 1839. It has existed in one form or another at the current site since 1871 so it has a historical and traditional importance in the area and I hope it continues to be for many years to come. Happy holidays to everyone and looking forward to a prosperous new year.
