To the Editor:
Thank God for Georgette Huff, Gail Walker, Judy Allen, Paula Lane and Judy Libbey for speaking the truth.
This is what we have to look forward to if Mitt Romney is elected: on July 29, 2011, the Republican majority in the House voted against a Democratic motion that called for giving spending for education programs priority over tax breaks for oil and gas companies and owners of private jets.
CNN news reported recently that since 2005, Citgo Oil, which is owned by the country of Venezuela, at the request of President Chavez, has donated 100 gallons of heating oil to over 500 thousand needy families in the United States. This can be verified by calling Citgo Corporation in Houston, TX, and speaking to Jerry Santos. This program is available every year.
The American oil companies who receive billions of dollars in tax breaks have donated nothing. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
On Feb. 17, 2012, the Republican majority voted against requiring that petroleum products made from crude oil shipped in the Canada to Texas Keystone XL pipeline be sold in the United States. Who are the Republicans working for - the Canadians? Surely not the Americans.
On July 20, 2012, the Senate Republicans voted down Senate Bill 3364 commonly referred to as the “Bring Jobs Home Act.” Businesses would receive a 20 percent tax credit for expenses associated with returning overseas jobs to the United States. The bill would also deny American businesses from receiving tax deductions when they send their jobs to another country. It shocks me that Republican politicians actually support giving tax deductions to American businesses that send jobs overseas.
This explains why right now corporate profits are the highest since World War II.
I am convinced the Republican politicians in Washington are going to eliminate the working class in America along with Social Security and Medicare.
House Republicans bring up over and over votes to restrict women’s rights. On June 8, 2012, the Senate Republicans voted against a bill giving women more rights for fighting wage discrimination. If it was against the law to tell a lie, every Republican politician in Washington would be in jail along with Marilyn Marshall, Randy J. Miller and Don Nocera.
