To the Editor:
I hope the School Board and administration have read the comments on Randi Bake’s letter to the editor last week. There was only one comment that needs enlightened.
The person thinks we need to compromise and they will put the stage extensions back on for our productions. If this is so, why won’t the administrator put it in writing? She is out to cut programs and feels the speech and drama department is an easy target. There were other options and we gave them. They could take off the cat walk and have plenty of room for tables to make another cafeteria, but no, she wants it all! What about the multi purpose room? I didn’t know that multi purpose was code for wrestling room only! The administrator knows how hard it will be to put the extensions back on for our productions. What will they do for a cafeteria when we have them up? We use the stage 25 weeks out of the year, not to mention other organizations that rent it like Hospice and Star Struck Dance Studio. It would be a lot easier to believe the administration if they would put things in writing. They have proven the gentlemen’s agreement made by previous board members means absolutely nothing to the current board members so why should we trust them now? Bottom line is I do not feel we need another cafeteria; the one we have serves the purpose just fine and has for many years.
Where are they getting all the money to sink into this (besides from terminating valuable cooks and bus drivers)? With the economy the way it is, a lot of people are taking pay cuts or wage freezes in order to keep their jobs and help their companies. Why are our school administrators paid wages comparable to Jackson Twp. School administrators? This is a small school district compared to Jackson. I think instead of cutting important jobs and programs, our administrators could afford to take some pay cuts to help out our school.
The box lunches are not a good option for our kids. I’m certain the majority of kids will waste the food because it is awful! I hope the administrators eat these lunches with the kids since they feel they are so wonderful. The school needs to start caring about the kids who attend this school. And, why is it alright for kids to cross the road to go to band and to catch the buses? They need to quit using that as an excuse. I feel they just want to cut jobs and activities to punish us for the school levy not passing. Well, I did vote for the school levy and will probably continue to because I feel we do need a new school, but if the administration keeps this up, it will never pass.
