To the Editor:
This letter is in regard to the Booster Club bingo. I am one who goes every week (with few exceptions) thus supporting the sports of Carrollton. I have two sons (now adults ages 25 and 21) who never played any sports. I don’t have any nieces or nephews in Carrollton Schools, yet I have supported bingo ever since they opened the doors. Why? I don’t really know because I only go one night a week and I could choose almost any other night and go where they pay more, but I don’t.
Carrollton Schools is suppose to be big on sports. They get support at games, so why don’t they get the support they need at bingo? Only on rare occasions do they get support by the players. They can’t even get the parents and coaches to help at bingo. I am sure there are enough parents and coaches to volunteer a few hours on a Wednesday night, unless their bedtime is before 9:30 p.m. because after cleanup they are out of there by that time. I know this because the last couple weeks we have been helping them clean up after bingo.
Most nights I can count the workers on one hand not counting the ones who are there every week. To be sure they have a caller, I am volunteering to become a full-time caller. Since Louie retired there seems to be no one who wants to take on the job. Because of this I won’t be financially supporting the Booster Club bingo any longer, but will be helping where they need the help.
