To The Editor:
As a parent of a first grader and kindergartner at Malvern Elementary School, I would like to express my support of the upcoming levy on May 5. I believe that it is a misnomer to call this a “school levy”; instead it should be called a “community levy” since we all benefit from the education provided. I have been extremely impressed with the level of instruction that my children have received in the Malvern Schools so far, and I have also met many people in the area who benefited from these schools and are now well educated and successful adults. Aren’t we lucky to have such a wonderful educational experience available right in our own community?
I work in schools throughout Ohio for my profession, and I see school districts every day whose levies have repeatedly failed. I would move away from one of these districts before I would send my children to a school with large class sizes and over extended staff that lacks art, music, physical education, field trips, bussing, etc. The products of our schools are the adults who are now living and working in our community, and I believe we should all want the best for our children, neighbors, and friends. Even without taking into consideration the exceptional learning opportunities Malvern Local Schools offers its students, if our levy fails we will still pay for a levy-it just may not be in our own community. The levy on May 5 is not a request for additional money. It is a renewal, which would allow our schools to continue to operate. Thank you for supporting our schools and our community!
