Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
Following is a quote from Abraham Lincoln:
“You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they don’t have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they worked for, that my dear friend is about the end of any nation.”

Please cut this column from the newspaper, laminate it and tape it to your refrigerator. Every time there is a ballot issue requesting you to give more of your hard-earned money to another cause via more taxes, take this article from your refrigerator, read it carefully and memorize the words of Abraham Lincoln before you go to the polls to vote.

Let’s start taking back our rights and our wallets by voting no every time they, whoever they happen to be at that time, want more of what you earn by working hard for it and have every right to keep and do whatever it is that you see fit with it. It’s your money not theirs. The time has come to tip the scales back to our side, placing control back to where it belongs, to “we the people.”

At some point, you must start thinking logically and not emotionally before it’s too late and you have nothing left. Don’t feel guilty about saying no. More people think the way you do than you realize. Have the courage of your convictions and start standing up for what is right for you and your family, not what somebody else says you should do with your money just because it satisfies their addiction to what is rightfully yours to begin with.

You were not placed on this earth to have to give away your wages for someone else’s wants or even their needs. That is slavery, plain and simple. It’s not what our founding fathers had in mind and it’s something Abraham Lincoln warned us about.
