Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
I write this letter as a personal appeal to the parents of my students in the past, present and future, to my many friends and neighbors of the Malvern community.

As a long-time teacher in this district (33 years), I have a strong personal history with the Brown Local School District. I’ve looked fondly at my Mom’s Malvern graduation pictures from 1944 (Lois Wadsworth Newell). My husband Frank and my two children (Matt and Kara) are proud and successful Malvern grads too. In fact half of my family’s wardrobe is Hornet gear!

Because I live on the family farm outside the Brown Local School District, I am unable to support the school levy with my vote. I have, however, consistently supported our schools and community in every way possible throughout my career. I love being a part of the Malvern tradition and I ask you to continue this tradition. Academically, Malvern graduates can successfully compete on any level and our graduation rate is high.

Brown Local Schools have been the foundation of our community for over 100 years. The renewal levy that will be on the ballot May 5, 2009, will not increase your taxes in any way. It will simply help us maintain our quality school.

I believe that schools are the heart of any community and certainly the heart of ours. Imagine 2007, 2008 and 2009 without the accomplishments of our basketball and football teams. I was filled with pride and swept up in the emotion of these teams and what they achieved! Help maintain that pride and tradition by supporting our renewal levy.

Bonnie Newell Chiurco
Carrollton, OH
