To the Editor:
We had a lot of people step forward to help in the efforts to save Atwood Lake Lodge.
Red Higgenbotham got the effort started with the initial public meeting at Calvary United Methodist Church at Sherrodsville. The meeting was positive and informative. The meeting was attended by many concerned and dedicated citizens of the area.
There were a number of other meetings that followed, including an informal meeting held at the picnic shelter at Dellroy Park. Once again, many citizens gave of their time to keep informed.
As a result of these meetings, a petition drive began, and the response by Carroll County Citizens was overwhelming. Every local elected government official was contacted with our concerns. Most were very supportive, and we thank them for their vote of confidence that the citizens were correct in believing that the lodge should be saved.
These efforts lead to the turn-around event - the citizen’s public meeting with the MWCD officials at the Dellroy Community Hall. At this meeting, the MWCD reversed it’s decision to demolish the lodge.
Following this meeting, the Carroll County Commissioners, along with Glen Enslen, worked tirelessly and persistently to forge the details of the transfer of the lodge property for the benefit of the citizens of Carroll County.
I just want to say “Thank You” to every individual who helped in any way on this project.
