Letter to the Editor:
Another High School bowling season has come to an end and its time to hand out a lot of thank you’s. So many people have supported us this year. It’s hard to know where to begin. I guess I should start at the heart of our program and thank John Deford and Doug Hutchison of Carroll Lanes for all the practice time and matches. You are a big part of why this program is such a success. I also want to send out a big thank you to Charlie and Stan Tinlin of Atwood Lanes for all the help with coaching and also the extra practice time. This program would not be where it’s at without all of you. I want to thank Vera Fox, the girls coach, for all you do. The girls have been so close the last couple of years, just hang in their ladies, your time is coming.
Most coaches dread dealing with parents; I don’t. I have a great group of parents who are both supportive and loyal. I can’t thank you all enough for all you have done.
To all the bowlers on the adult leagues, your words of support and help with fund raising are greatly appreciated.
I know this may sound strange to the people of Carrollton, but I want to send out thanks to the Minerva boys and coaches for coming down to Columbus to cheer us on. You are all a great bunch and the boys and I really appreciated your support.
The past three years have been a whirlwind. Who would have thought that we would be the three-time conference champs and state qualifiers in such a short time? I am so proud of all the kids for their hard work and dedication. I hope we can continue this run for years to come.
While we were at state we were sitting in first place after singles competition. The big talk around the bowling alley was where in the heck is Carrollton? Well we went down there and showed them that a bunch of small town boys know how to bowl!
To my seniors, what a great run guys! I’m going to miss you all very much. I wish you the best of luck in whatever direction you go from here and I hope to see you all on the lanes as adults, and remember “SWEEP THE DECK!!!”
I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone. Please forgive me if I have. I am already looking forward to next season.
Kurt Lumley
Carrollton High School Boys Bowling Coach
