To the Editor:
As a member of the Carroll County Animal Protection League, I would like to show our appreciation for the valuable service provided by the Humane Society spay and neuter program. However, this alone does not solve the problem of lost, unwanted or discarded animals in Carroll County. There is a very real need to help the frightened, abused, neglected and often starving animals.
One of our goals is to give these creatures of God a new lease on life. Can you help us with this in any way? If you love animals, please consider giving one hour a month to attend our meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. We meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Friendship Center at the Carroll County Fairgrounds. We would appreciate your input.
The Carroll County Dog Pound does a great job and the rescue groups are dedicated and do an exceptional job of saving many dogs. However, there is no facility for rescuing cats or kittens in a 60-mile radius, as well as other domesticated animals.
We now have a diagram of the shelter we want to build which was completed for us by an architect from Minerva. Our shelter will be an excellent place for organized adoption as well as an area for education of animal treatment and care.
At present, we are actively looking for land to build the sheter on. We have presented our plans to Carroll County Commissioners and are waiting to hear if they have any suggestions or help you might be able to offer.
