Mayor Michael Morgan

Mayor Michael Morgan, 54, of Amsterdam died May 1, 2008, in his home of pancreatic cancer.

Born May 12, 1953, in Steubenville, he was a son of Ruth Starr Morgan and the late William Morgan.

He was a 1971 graduate of Springfield Local High School.  He was a retiree of the Construction Workers' Local 809 where he served as sergeant of arms, recording secretary and president.  He served on the Amsterdam Village Council and was in his 18th year serving as mayor of Amsterdam.  He was a member of Unionport Masonic Lodge, Jefferson County Sportsman's Club, and was a committeeman for the Jefferson County Democratic Party.

Hi is survived by his wife, the former Carol Alloway, whom he married May 21, 1988; a stepson, Michael (Holly) Boyuk of Amsterdam; two step grandsons and four brothers, Kevin (Anne) Morgan of Virginia Beach, VA., Daniel (Janet) Morgan of Colebrook, CT., Terrance (Rose) Morgan of Canaan, CT., and Patrick Morgan of Amsterdam.

Funeral services were held May 5 in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Amsterdam with Rev. Charles McNatt officiating.  Burial followed in Bergholz Cemetery.
