Margaret Blosser

Margaret Blosser, 92, of BergholzMargaret Blosser, 92, of Bergholz passed away April 18, 2008, in her home of natural causes.

Born Jan. 17, 1916, in Bergholz, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Hazel (George) McLain.

She was a retired supervisor for Carrollton Exempted Village School District and a lifelong member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Bergholz where she served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the choir for over 50 years.  She was a 56-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma teacher’s sorority.

After acquiring her two-year teaching certificate from Mt. Union College in 1935, she began her lifelong career as an educator, teaching in a one-room schoolhouse on Timothy Ridge.  She suspended her teaching career in 1944 for seven years to care for her mother.  She returned to teaching and in the summer months, attended Ohio University earning a master’s degree in Education.  She completed her career as an educator in 1985 as an elementary supervisor for Carrollton Exempted Village School District.  Among her achievements, she introduced and continued to develop the highly successful Open Court Reading System, which is still being used in Carroll County schools.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Ralph W. McBane; nephew, James C. (Eleanor) McBane, all of Bergholz; six great nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Kaye Blosser whom she married in June 1964 and who died Aug. 4, 2001 and a sister, Maxine McBane, who passed away June 23, 2005.

Funeral services were held April 21 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Bergholz with Rev. Alan Jeffries officiating.  Burial followed at Mooretown Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent online at www.everhartfuneralhomes.com.  Everhart-Bove Funeral Home in Bergholz was in charge of arrangements.
