Wilbur R. Gordon

Wilbur R. Gordon, 67, of N. Lisbon St.Wilbur R. Gordon, 67, of N. Lisbon St. passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 29, 2011.

He was a son of the late Charles and Ruth Gordon.

He served in the United States Army from 1963-69 when he was honorably discharged.  He was a talented self-taught guitarist and played bass guitar for many years with his band, The Road Runners.

He was a loving husband and father and was a father figure to many people whom he taught the ethics of hard work, love and dedication to family. 

He began his career April 14, 1965, at what is now Heritage Plastics, where he continued to work as a production manager.  He was a member of Carrollton Eagles Arie #2185, Carroll County Vet's Club and VFW Post #3301. 

He is survived by his wife, the former Janet Johnson, with whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage on May 29, 2011; five daughters, Amy (Duane) Ruby-Tidwell of Corpus Christi, TX, Debbie (William) Bennett of Carrollton, Tracy (Shane) Whitney of Peru, NY, Lori (Thomas) Sedlock of Ramstein, Germany, and Jennifer (Jeff) Nign of Carrollton; eight grandchildren, Timothy A. Ruby II, Shawn Ruby, Tasha (Christopher) Smith, Kyle Whitney, Kayla Bennett, Michael Grogg, and Zachary and Matthew Sedlock; and four siblings, Paul Gordon, Charles Gordon, Donald Gordon, and Mary Arnold.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Susie Woodburn and Ruth Brown.

The family would like to thank Charles McCort for all the years of devotion and friendship he has shown throughout the years.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. in Allmon-Dugger-Cotton Funeral Home in Carrollton.  Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the American Legion, VFW and DAV.  Calling hours will be Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
