Polly Jean (Thorpe) Moreland

Polly Jean (Thorpe) MorelandPolly Jean (Thorpe) Moreland, 80, of Canton died peacefully in the home Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, after a long battle with lung disease.

Born Nov. 6, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Forest and Ida Mae (Morton) Thorpe, the elder sister to David (June), the late Thomas (Linda), and William (Linda) Thorpe, all of Stanton, KY.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Carl W. Moreland, Sr., with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage Sept. 15.  She was the beloved mother to Patti O 'Malley of Canton, Carl (the late Brenda) Moreland, Jr. of Louisville, Cynthia (James) Brownlee of Bolivar, and Russell (Tonee) Moreland of Greentown; adoring grandmother to Brian (Jennifer) Hunter, Catherine O'Malley, Andrew (Kari) Moreland, Kristen Moreland, Tracey Parr, Amber (Eric) Valentine, Russell Moreland, Reannan Moreland and Taryn (Alex) Eberhardt, and loving great-grandmother of 12.  Polly leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her wonderful smile, warm hugs and her loving and gentle nature.

She graduated in 1950 from Powell County High School in Stanton KY, married in 1953 and soon became a homemaker and Army wife.  She established stable and loving homes for her family throughout the United States and in Europe during her husband's 20-year military career.  Polly enjoyed reading, gardening, painting, and caring for her precious Daisy Mae.  Polly was a member of Eastern Star and Beachwood Christian Church in Alliance.  An ardent student of the Bible, she will be missed by her church families where she served the Lord throughout her life in various Women's ministries.

Family and friends may call at the Reed Funeral Home (Canton Chapel) Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. where services will be held at 7:30 p.m. with Pastors Peter Hall and Mark Black officiating.  Brother John Keen will provide Christian music Polly loved so dearly. Following cremation, internment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman in a private family ceremony at a later date.

Signature Health Services and Nurse Susan are to be commended for the outstanding care they provided.  Special thanks to Mercy Medical Center Hospice and to Nurse Donna and Aide Tina, for the most excellent and loving care provided for Polly.  The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mercy Hospice, so they may continue Christ's healing ministry.
