Marion L. Fish
Marion L. Fish, age 85, of 5292 Antigua Road SW, Sherrodsville (Leavittsville), died Monday morning Sept. 12, 2011, in Union Hospital at Dover following a brief illness.
Born June 8, 1926, in Cameron, WV, he was the son of the late Lester L. and Leona Foster Fish.
Marion retired in 1988 as a press operator and maintenance worker for U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. of East Sparta after working for more than 30 years.
He was a lifetime, active, and faithful member of Leavittsville United
Methodist Church and frequently could be seen at the monthly breakfast held in the church annex.
He could commonly be found puttering in his woodshop creating
the many unique pieces, which were often gifted to his family. He was a man of eclectic taste who was well known for his many collections of various items. He was strongly devoted to his family and always made them his priority. He will be remembered for his "spirited" family vacations and having lived by the motto: "Never go the same way twice".
He was enthusiastic about traveling cross-country to visit his family and to Marion there wasn't a country road that wasn't his friend.
He was a 1947 graduate of the former Dellroy High School and was faithful about attending their alumni banquets.
He is survived by six daughters, Revs. Phil (Karen) Gibson of Craig, CO, Mrs. Tom (Darlene) Bishop of North Canton, Mrs. Jerry (Betty) Ferguson of Oregon City, OR, Mrs. Bob (Jane) Maney of Leavittsville, Mrs. Larry (Nadine) Shafer of New Bedford, OH, and Mrs. Ed (Margie) Merryman of Sherrodsville; three sons, Lenny (Sheila) Fish of New Hagerstown, Rev. Tom (Janet) Fish of Wooster, and Joshua Fish of Pearl City, HI; two brothers, Dr. Raymond (Phyllis) Fish of Winchester, VA, and Thomas (Suzie) Fish of Mt. Vernon; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, and his special friend Joann Hibbitts of East Sparta.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lois E. Scott, whom he married June 8, 1948, and who died April 22, 2007, after 58 years of marriage; an infant daughter, Mary Virginia Fish, and a brother Rev. Loman Fish.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Sept. 16 at 11a.m. in Leavittsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol McCartney officiating. Interment will follow in Leavittsville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. in Baxter Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville.
