Richard "Dick" Grove

Richard "Dick" GroveRichard "Dick" Grove, 84, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 30, 2011.

Born Sept. 8, 1926, in Mechanicstown, he was the son of the late Queenie E. and Paul G. Grove.

Dick served in the Pacific Theater on the USS Wiley from 1944-46. He retired from Tennessee Gas Pipeline/ El Paso Energy as a district welder and pipeline foreman in Mercer, PA, after 33 years of service, and has been wintering in Sebring, FL, for the past 22 years with his wife of 64 years, Bunny.

Dick was an avid golfer both here and in Florida. He was an active member in Carrollton Jaycees for multiple years, serving as president for one year.

As a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Dick served 60+ years. He was appointed to the past masters unit of Tadmor Temple Shrine at Akron, a past master of Carroll Lodge No. 124, a past high priest of Minerva Chapter No. 123, Royal Arch Masons, a member of Steubenville Commandery, and conductor of Council in the Loyalty Council No. 146 Royal and Select Masters at Tadmor Temple AAONMS.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bernice "Bunny" Grove (Cummings); his daughter, Karen (Joseph) Applegart; and two sons, John P. Grove and James (Donna) Grove; a sister, Bernice J. Herst-Anspach; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one expected great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth "Tib" Lilly.

Calling hours will be held at Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton on Wednesday, Aug. 3 from 5 - 8 p.m. with Masonic Services at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery with full military honors.
