George Edward Gardner

George Edward GardnerGeorge Edward Gardner, 85, of Bergholz, passed away Aug. 22, 2012, at Valley Hospice Care Center North.

Born July 28, 1927, in Steubenville, he was a son of the late Orn E. and Estella (Buckbee) Gardner.

He served his country in the United States Army during WWII.

George was a member of Bergholz United Methodist Church and Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel.

He is survived by his wife, Frances (Palmer) Gardner whom he married Feb. 10, 1954; son, John (Grace) Gardner of Mechanicstown; daughter, Cheryl Brewer of Bergholz; four grandchildren, Bobi (Jay) Gordon, Ross (Karla) Gardner, Cori (Dan) Warner and Paige (Mark) Hay; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Martha Nonemaker of Conneaut, Betty Jean Haynes of Richmond, and Margaret Cline of Lake Milton; and sister-in-law, Judy Gardner of Salineville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Van Gardner and sister, Eleanor Gardner.

Funeral services were held Aug. 25 at Everhart-Bove Funeral Home in Bergolz with Pastor Mark Thomas officiating.  Private burial took place at Bergholz Cemetery.
