Laura E. Watkins

Laura E. Watkins, 79, of Carrollton passed away early Monday morning May 23, 2011, at Carroll Healthcare Center in Carrollton following a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 3, 1932, in Tuskegee, OK, she was a daughter of the late John and Cloe George Brownlee.

She served in the US Marine Corps from 1950-1952 attaining the rank of Corporal.  She attended Canton Actual Business College and worked from 1963-1973 as district secretary to Congressman Frank T. Bow of Canton.  She was a member of Bergholz Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by a foster daughter, Barbara Johnson of Indiana, and a brother, Ferrell (Francine) Brownlee of Alliance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred E. Watkins, whom she married Aug. 24, 1951.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 27 at 1 p.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Robert Stover officiating.  Visitation will be from noon until time of service.  Full military honors will be provided by VFW, DAV, and American Legion.  Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
