Dorothy (Papai) Binder
Dorothy (Papai) Binder was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Dellroy, and passed away on Sept. 10, 2013, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL. She was surrounded by her husband, Hank, and her children.
She was the daughter of the late Julia and Stephen Papai of Dellroy. She graduated from Dellroy High School in 1945. After graduation she moved to Chicago to attend Northwestern University majoring in music performance. Dorothy married Henry (Hank) Binder on May 28, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia. Music was a lifelong passion of both Dorothy and Hank and was evident by their 51 years as members of the choir at their church, Holy Trinity and their attendance at concerts at Northwestern.
This passion for music continued with their four children, James (Lisa) Binder of Jackson, MS; Lisa Pierard of Naperville, IL; Robert (Mary Emily) Binder of Naperville, IL and Thomas (Jaye Kimberly) Binder of Maple Valley, WA. She has 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and was looking forward to the birth of two great-grandsons.
Besides her husband and children, she is survived by her brother, James Papai, of Bowie, MD; and Kathryn Spillman of New Waterford, OH.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael (Ellen Mary) Papai, Steven (Ethel) Papai and Carl (Phyllis) Papai; two sisters, Nancy (George) Deverman and Julia (John) Atwater; and grandson, Craig Andrew Binder.
A memorial service was held Oct. 5 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenview, IL. Memorial donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure.
