John "Jack" Stringer
John "Jack" Stringer, 81, of Germano, OH, passed away Sept. 29, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville.
Born Jan. 3, 1931, in Hopedale, he was the son of late Montford and Mary (Hanna) Stringer.
Jack enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and loved being outdoors. He was a founding member of Jewett Sportsman's Club and an avid fan of The Ohio State University and enjoyed all sports.
He retired from Weirton Steel after 33 years, served as Harrison County Commissioner for eight years, and as German Township Trustee for over 20 years. He was a longtime member of Unionport Lodge 333 F. and A. M., Osiris Shrine of Wheeling, Cadiz Eagles and the former Amsterdam Moose. He was a coach for Germano Indian's Little League team for many years.
Jack was an active member of United Presbyterian Church of Germano, until it closed and was a member of United Methodist Church of the Cross in East Springfield.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a sister Evelyn Statler; four children, Rhonda Tharp of Carrollton, Ron Stringer of Jacksonville, FL, Shelley Hanchin of Annapolis, and Eric Stringer of Pittsburgh, PA; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Monte and Richard; and a sister, Donna Wolfe.
Services will be held Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at Church of the Cross, 7712 SR 43 in East Springfield. Calling hours will be 2 - 4 and 5 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at Koch Funeral Home, Scio, where a Masonic service will be held at 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday from noon to 1:00 p.m.
