Robert Lewis Thompson
Robert Lewis Thompson, 76, of Obert Road, Spartansburg, PA., died Friday, July 16, 2010, at his residence.
Born Feb. 4, 1934, in Carrollton, he was a son of the late Wilbur and Nellie Francis Thompson.
He was raised and educated in Carrollton, where he graduated from Carrollton High School in 1952. He worked various jobs before entering the United States Marine Corp. Following his discharge, he returned to Carrollton. He began employment with the Tennessee Gas Pipeline (now El Paso Pipeline) as their chief operator and over the years he had worked in Massachusetts and Clymer, NY. He and his wife, have resided in Spartansburg since 1989. Mr. Thompson retired in 1994 after 37 years of service.
He was a member of the Spartansburg United Methodist Church where he was a former church treasurer and handy man. He was also a member of the Spartansburg Senior Citizens Group (Owls) and enjoyed fishing and watching baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Lou Cooper Thompson whom he married May 1, 1954, in Carrollton; three daughters, Margaret Jane Supronowicz and her husband, Ronald, of Erie, PA, Linda Kaye Berkey and her husband, Meade and Darla Mae Keener, all of Spartansburg, PA.; a brother, John H. Thompson of North Canton; eight grandchildren, two step granddaughters, 14 great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Lloyd Thompson on April 29, 2010; two sisters, Francis Brown and Margaret Lawther and a brother, James Thompson.
Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 211 Mechanic St., Spartansburg, PA. Monday, July 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service there at 12 noon with Rev. Dayton Mix officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Spartansburg, PA.
