Arthur E. "Art" Warner

Arthur E. "Art" Warner 88, of Georgetown, MA and Long Boat Key, FL. and formerly of Amsterdam, passed away on Saturday morning, Feb.21, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 4, 1920, in Amsterdam, a son of the late Bert & Grace (Burrier) Warner.

He was a retired employee of TRW and Tremenna Coal Co. at Steubenville, OH., and a self-employed building contractor in East Sandwich, MA.  He was a WWII Army veteran, serving in the 997th Signal Service in the South Pacific, Australia and New Guinea.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #188 at Sandwich, MA., and the Lions Club. Art especially enjoyed golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Knoor whom he married Aug. 13, 1994; step-daughters, Janet M. Burns and Nancy G. Yorke, both of Georgetown, MA; step-sons, Paul L. Brown of Ashburnham, MA, Carl E. Brown of Groveland, MA and David A. Knorr of Georgetown, MA; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Chester Warner of Ocala, FL; cherished sister-in-law, Cicely Worthington of Carrollton; nephew Ralph Warner of Dunnellon, FL and nieces; Sandy Rininger of Carrollton, Sharon Barwick, of N. Canton and Nancy Lindemann of Cypress, TX.

On Dec. 20, 1989, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Bessie Jane Worthington who he married June 3, 1945; a daughter, Cicely Ann Engler who died Feb. 15, 1993 and a sister, Mildred Arbogast.

Funeral services were held Feb. 25 in Merton E. Roberts, Jr. and Conte Funeral in Georgetown, MA.  Interment with Military Honors followed at Harmony Cemetery, Georgetown.  For those who wish, Art may be remembered through donations to Beacon Hospice, 350 Main Street, Haverhill, MA. 01830.
