Gwendolyn F. Day

Gwendolyn F. DayGwendolyn F. Day, age 87, of Minerva, and a longtime Dellroy resident, died suddenly Sunday evening, Dec. 9, 2012, in the Minerva Eldercare nursing facility.  Gwen had been living in Minerva with her daughter Connie for the last several years.

Born Jan. 22, 1925, in Magnolia, she was the daughter of the late John "Dewey" and Gladys Sprankle Collins. 

Gwen was a longtime member of Dellroy United Methodist Church and had recently been attending First Christian Church at Minerva. She was a member of Dellroy United Methodist Women, and was a member and Past Noble Grand of the Orange Rebekah Lodge #784 at Dellroy.  She was a former 4-H advisor for the former Dellroy-B Square, a position she held for 15 years.  Gwen dearly loved her two canine best friends, Lucky and Xavier.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs, Richard (Kay) Onstott of Dellroy, and Connie Morris of Minerva; her beloved grandchildren, Mrs. Joe (Vicki) Fewkes of New Philadelphia, Rick Morris of Minerva, Stephanie Morris and Justin Tomako of Ambridge, PA, and Lindsay Morris of Tiffin; and her new great-grandson, Taylor Fewkes; and a step-great-grandson, Tyler Fewkes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen C. Day, whom she married Feb. 1, 1942, and who passed away Dec. 21, 2004; two brothers, William and Jay Collins; and a son-in-law, Fred Morris.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Pastor Ralph Norman officiating.  Interment will follow in Baxter's Ridge Cemetery near New Harrisburg in Harrison Township. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
