Margie Eileen George
Margie Eileen George, age 92, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Dec. 1, 2012, in Columbus, OH. Eileen, as she preferred to be called, died after a brief illness.
Born May 23, 1920, in Columbus, she was a daughter to Charles E. and Thelma Nutt.
She graduated from Columbus North High School and attended The Ohio State University, where she met her husband Dr. Ray E. George, who was attending the Ohio State College of Dentistry. They were married Dec. 31, 1940, in Follansbee, WV. After finishing school, Eileen and Ray lived in Dana Point, CA, until the end of World War II and returned in 1946 and settled in Ray's hometown of Carrollton to start his dental practice and raise their family of eight children.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Carrollton, Eastern Star, Carroll-Stark County Dental Auxiliary and a Charter Member of Atwood Yacht Club. She was a founding member of Carrollton Schools PTA and a Paul Harris Fellow (Rotary International) and volunteered her time to various organizations in the Carrollton community for the many years she lived there.
She is survived by her children, Margie (Steve) Deardourff, Ray (Suzanne) George, Kathie (Deryl) Johnston, Amie George Reid, Julie George, Laurie (Garry) Litt, and Nancie George; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Ray E. George, and their oldest daughter, Connie (Paul) McGhee; her parents; a sister, Dorothy Gene Snyder; and a brother, E. Alan Nutt.
Visiting hours will be Friday, Dec. 7 from 4-7 p.m. at Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral services will be Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. in Carrollton First Presbyterian Church, 200 N. Lisbon St., followed by burial at Carrollton Westview Cemetery. The Reverend Harold Steindam of Westerville Community United Church of Christ will be officiating.
