Sister Immaculate Heart (Rosemary Loretta) Linehan
Sister Immaculate Heart (Rosemary Loretta) Linehan, of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity died Aug. 2, 2009, at the convent in Carrollton. Sister was 90 years old and in her 49th year of religious life.
Born Aug. 15, 1918, in Grand Rapids, MI, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Kathryn Flynn Linehan. Two brothers and a sister, preceded her in death.
Sister graduated from Miss Hunter's Kindergarten Training School, New York City in 1939, and taught for 20 years in Connecticut Public Schools before entering religious life. After Sister entered the convent in 1960, she was a childcare worker at Our Lady of Refuge, Buffalo, NY,; Holy Innocents Home, Rochester, NY; and Hopevale School, Hamburg, NY. She worked with the elderly in Hamburg.
Noted for her quick Irish wit, Sister was enthusiastic for life and prayer.
Sister is survived by the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity and a niece and nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 4 at the convent chapel of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity with Rev. Tom Marut officiating, assisted by Rev. Msgr. Joseph A. Nealon, chaplain. Internment followed in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery on the convent grounds.
