Bruce L. Schmidt

Bruce L. Schmidt, 85, of Oneida, left his earthly body to enter eternity with his Lord and Savior, Monday, March 26, 2012, at 4:30 a.m. after a six-year battle with cancer.

Born March 9, 1927, in Smithville, he was the son of the late Donald J. and Elsie V (Yarman) Schmidt.

He was an educator for over 30 years, serving as principal of Malvern High School for two years and superintendent of Brown Local Schools for 13 years.

He was a member of Little Country Church, State Teachers Retirement System, Carroll County Historical Society, Carroll County Retired Teachers, American Legion and Fostoria Masonic Bodies.

He served his country in the Army during WW II.   He loved his family very much and designed and built a large family room, which all enjoyed.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joan (Harsh) Schmidt; two sons Doug (Kathi) Schmidt of Malvern and David (Patti) Schmidt of Canton; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary (Clarence) Bennett of Malvern.

He was preceded in death by two sons, his parents and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at Little Country Church, Waynesburg, with Rev. Bill Carter and Rev. Dale Boston officiating.

Calling hours will be Thursday 5 - 8 p.m. at Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home, Malvern. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas, Stark and Carroll Counties, 1040 Trump Rd. NW, Suite B, Carrollton, OH 44615.
