James C.  "Jim"  Bracken

James C.  "Jim"  Bracken, age 88,  a Folsam Road N.W., Carrollton resident,  passed away late Sunday afternoon, March 7, 2010,  in his home following a lengthy illness.

Born  Nov. 19, 1921, in Brackenridge, PA., he was the son of the late Frank R. and Helen E. Pearson Bracken.

He retired in 1971 from the Timken Company at Canton after 30 years of service, and then became part owner of North Canton Drain and Sewer for 15 years.

He was a member of the Dellroy Christ Community Church.  He was an enthusiastic sports fan and enjoyed watching and feeding the wildlife at his home "Standing Rock" in Carrollton. He was a 32nd degree Mason, being a member of the Fidelity Lodge at Canton, and was a member of the Dellroy I.O.O.F. Lodge  #706.  He faithfully served his country as a World War II Army veteran, having participated in campaigns in the European Theatre.  Jim loved to play his guitar and sing, and had once been a member of the "Carroll County Gang" musical group.  He enjoyed bowling, and had participated in bowling leagues in both Dellroy and Canton.  He was also an occasional golfer.

A member of the Carroll County Humane Society, he was extremely fond of his pet dogs and cats.  And, among his other hobbies and activities, Jim also enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn J. Mishler Bracken, whom he married April 27, 1947; his three children James  E.  (Cynthia) Bracken of Dover, Carla J. (Jim) Martin of East Canton, and Kristina K. (William)  Lee of Louisville; seven grandchildren,  Michelle S. (John) Riddle, Holly J. Bracken,  Todd J. Bracken, Brian J. Martin, Jamie L. Whaley, Kevin J. Martin, and William C. Lee; six great-grandchildren, Marisa Whaley, Alexandria and Benjamin Martin, Bodie and Peyton Riddle, and Malaina Martin; a brother, John  "Jack" (Evelyn) Bracken of East Canton, and three sisters, Norma Karcher of Orange City, FL, Shirley Pritchard of Canton, and Joanne (Jim) Lindimore of Orange City, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janice I. Powell.

To honor Jim's wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted at Noon Friday, March 12 in Dellroy Christ Community Church located at 20 East Main Street, Dellroy, with Rev. Rick Chappell officiating.
