Marcella L. Smith

Marcella L. SmithMarcella L. Smith, age 93, of the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield, and a former Sherrodsville area resident, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2010, in the Masonic Home following a long illness.

 Born March 5, 1916, in Hardin County, she was the daughter of the late Troyles and Ruth Manson Predmore.

Although she was primarily a housewife and mother, she had been employed as a secretary for Columbus Dental and Rea and Associates of New Philadelphia.

Marcella was a graduate of Bliss College in Columbus and  was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church at Sherrodsville.  She was very involved with the activities of the Carroll Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Conotton Valley Garden Club when she lived in the Sherrodsville area.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, and the challenges of crossword puzzles and playing scrabble.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Pinel of Pataskala, and Mrs. Robert (Cindy) Ankney of Bluffton, SC; a son, Terry (Sue) Smith of Honor, MI; a sister, Norverda Tilly of Columbus; five grandchildren, Rhoda Cronebach, Kristin Bogumill, Regan Ankney, Meredith Smith, and James Pinel; a step-granddaughter Raina Polivka and six great-grandchildren, Rachel Cronebach, Tristan and Lucian Pinel, and Kylee, Kaylen, and Drew Bogumill.

On June 2, 1940, she married her husband, the late  C. Holmes Smith, who died June 19, 2009.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Predmore.

A public graveside service will be conducted Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 1 p.m. in Leesville Cemetery with Rev. Harry Milligan officiating, with interment to follow.  No calling hours will be observed.  The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville is handling arrangements. In accordance with Marcella's wishes, it is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, P.O.
