Leland George Smith
Leland George Smith, age 87,of Carrollton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Carroll Health Care Center.
Born April 24, 1925, in Carrollton, he was a son of the late David E. and Ola B. (Gotschall) Smith.
He was a co-owner Cox & Manfull Lumber. He lived his entire life at his present residence and was a graduate of Carrollton High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Carrollton, where he was an organist for 34 years. He belonged to Fraternal Order of Eagles #2185; Carroll County Veterans Club; and American Federation of Musician Union for approximately 40 years, when he withdrew in good standing in 1992.
He is survived by a sister, Coyla Seck of Rancho Mirage, CA; six nephews and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl E. Smith and Moyne E. Smith; two sisters, Pearl E. Slaughter and Maxine V. Ross, and a nephew. David Smith.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Loomis officiating. Calling hours will be held Nov. 17 from 12-2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery in Carrollton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Carroll Health Care Center or First United Methodist Church.
