Helen Irene Boyd Truesdale
Helen Irene Boyd Truesdale, age 96, of Canton, died Thursday evening, Oct. 13, 2011, in Astoria Nursing Home in Canton.
Born May 8, 1915, in Leavittsville, she was a daughter to Earl William and Charlotta D. Allen Boyd.
She was a graduate of Dellroy High School and Canton Beauty School. She retired as owner/operator of Davidson's Beauty Shop where she worked for 40 years. Helen married Lynn E. Truesdale in 1944.
She was a member of Lowell United Church of Christ and a life member of the Carroll County Historical Society. A well-known soap maker, Helen made "Cousin Helen's Lye Soap" for the Algonquin Mill Festival, Great Trail Festival, and Malabar Farm Festival.
She was a historical writer for the Carroll County Historical Society Newsletter. An avid animal lover, her pets ranged from very pampered dogs and cats to raccoons and crows.
Helen was a tower of strength to all with whom she came into contact. She was an expert on the history of Carroll County but always looked to the future and was a great believer in God's strength and promise.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and by a host of special friends.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Evelyn Boyd Helbig and Ruth Boyd Huffman, and her husband, Lynn E. Truesdale.
Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. in Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 710 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton with Pastor Pearl D. Sentelik officiating.
