Oscar M. Lucas

Oscar M. LucasOscar M. Lucas, Jr., 86, of Carrollton, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 12, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center.

Born Dec. 13, 1925, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Oscar M. Lucas Sr. and Golda Carson Lucas.

He was drafted into the US Navy in World War II, serving from February 1944 to January 1946.  He was an armed guard reaching the rank of Boatwain's Mate second class.  He received the Victory Medal.

He was a lifetime member of Carrollton Eagles #2185, VFW Post #3301, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carrollton.  He loved to play euchre and always enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and old westerns.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Lucas; four sons, Ronnie (Dinah) Lucas of Minerva, Bob (Karen) Lucas of Georgia, Tom (Kathy) Lucas of Carrollton and Matt Lucas of Florida; four daughters, Linda Drescher of North Carolina, Cathy (Dave) Kenney of Waynesburg, Karen Sue (Ron) Bishop of Canton and Janet (Herb) Swogger of Carrollton; two brothers, Ralph Lucas of Carrollton and Kenny Lucas of Mechanicstown; four sisters, Rachael Patty Ludwig and Janice Place, both of Minerva, Marie Hepner of Carrollton and Corma Haas of Georgia; 19 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Violet Moyer Lucas; two brothers; a sister; two half-brothers; and a half-sister.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at Allmon Dugger Cotton Funeral Home in Carrollton.  Burial will be in Harlem Springs Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
