Mildred L. Paul

Mildred L. PaulMildred L. Paul, age 62, of 11 Monroe St., Sherrodsville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2009, in her residence following a short illness.

Born July 21, 1947, in Sherrodsville, she was the daughter of Genevieve Elifritz Caldwell Shuman of Sherrodsville and the late Glenn Harry Caldwell.  In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a nephew Eric Zeigler.

She, along with her husband Rev. David J. Paul, who currently serves as the Pastor of the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church, and is a former resident of Cumberland, MD, served eight years at the First Wesleyan Church at Cresaptown, MD.  For more than 30 years, she served as a Children's Evangelist, working in children's camps, Good News Clubs, and Vacation Bible Schools in a number of states in the eastern part of the country where she was known as "Aunt Mildred".  She was a member of the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church at Sherrodsville, where she assisted her husband in his ministry.

She was an accomplished baker, and was renown for her homemade pies, cakes, and cookies, among her other homemade baked goods.  Mildred was a graduate of the Kentucky Mountain Bible College and had received advanced training in children's ministries at the Child Evangelism Institute at Warrenton, MO.  In addition to her service as a Sunday school teacher and Good News Club teacher, she served as a Library Aide at Vennard College in Iowa.   She taught in Christian schools from kindergarten through high school grades. She was an inspirational speaker for a number of women's groups and was always a wonderful hostess. Mildred will be remembered by her family for the blessings of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  Through her example, she proved to be a selfless and loving individual who always saw the positive nature in everyone she met.   As further evidence of her grace, she also helped care for her father-in-law in her home for more than 10 years.

In addition to her mother Genevieve, she is survived by her step-father, Seaward Shuman of Sherrodsville; her husband, Rev. David J. Paul, whom she married June 27, 1969;  two sons, Jonathan  (Amy) Paul of Cumberland, MD, and  Jason  (Grace) Paul of Washington, PA;  two sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Debby) Zeigler of Roswell and Mrs. Dan (Wendy) Parson of Bowerston;  two brothers, Dewaine  (Sandy) Caldwell of Union, KY, and Chuck (Patsy) Caldwell of Sherrodsville; her grandchildren, Dyana  and Jared Paul, both of Cumberland, MD, and Addison and Jillian Paul, both of Washington, PA, and her father-in-law, Walter Paul of Sherrodsville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4 in Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church with Rev. Jeff Mansell, district superintendent of the Wesleyan Church, officiating.  Interment will follow in Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be observed Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville.  Following the committal, a reception will be held in the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church Fellowship Hall.
