W. Raymond (Ray) McAfee
W. Raymond (Ray) McAfee, 92, of 451 Ray Ave. Carrollton, died Aug. 24, 2012, at the Carroll Healthcare Center.
Born Sept. 17, 1919, in Fairmount, GA, he was the son of the late Arthur and Annie McAfee.
On Nov. 25, 1948, he was married to Suzzanne Lumley of Carrollton. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carrollton, and a four-year veteran of WWII in the 42st Infantry Division of the Army in the Southwest Pacific. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
He served as a police officer and the Chief of Police in the Village of Carrollton for 26 years, retiring at the end of 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Suzzanne; a son, Brad (Dotty) McAffe of Carrollton; two daughters, Vickie (Tom) Toussant of Pittsboro, IN, and Gail McEver of Villa Rica, GA; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Ralph) Havens of San Diego, CA, Eric (Dana) Toussant of Brownsburg, IN, Becky (Mike) Rubin of Candler, NC, Dana (Dan) Trowell, Jimmy Hefner of Dalton, GA, and Angie (Louis) Gore of Villa Rica, GA; and five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be held Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Rev. Dan Loomis officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Carrollton. Visitation will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday.
